Bio
Meredith Nicole spent her formative years on Vancouver Island. At 18 she moved to England to work as a care aid and travel Europe. After an inspiring conversation with a wise old woman, Meredith moved to Vancouver, Canada to attend art school. In 2001, she earned a BA in Visual Arts at Emily Carr University of Art and Design where she discovered a passion for building sculptural furniture in metal, synthetics, wood and ceramics, and began to explore and continues to explore; interaction with furniture beyond function.
Completion of post secondary studies left her broke and eager. Facing student debt and a desire to travel she moved to Taiwan where she taught English, hosted a radio show and wrote educational materials. For 5 years she worked, explored Asian design and architecture, traveled throughout Asia, studied martial arts and curated art exhibitions.
Succeeding Taiwan, Meredith moved to East Sussex, England where she spent two years refurbishing furniture to sell at weekend markets and stores. Working with such fine antiques settled a deep appreciation for quality handcrafted objects and thus inspired her to learn the craft of making heirloom quality furniture.
In 2008 Meredith relocated back to Vancouver to search for a teacher. In 2009 she found her perfect mentor, Robert Van Norman, head instructor at Inside Passage of Fine Woodworking where she continues to learn and develop the art of working with wood.
